Early life
Ashfaqulla Khan, who was born on 22 October 1900 CE in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was a major revolutionary in the Indian freedom struggle. His father’s name was Shafiqullah Khan and mother’s name was Majhurunnisa Begum. From an early age, he excelled in education and developed an interest in Urdu literature and poetry. He wrote poetry under the pseudonym “Hasrat”.
Although Khan respected Gandhi’s commitment to the nation and the principles of the life of Mahatma Gandhi, he believed that armed resistance, rather than non-violence.

Yes, if I find Khuda somewhere, I will spread my bag, and I will ask Him for a rebirth in return for Paradise.”
Kakori train robbery and its involvement
He formed the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) with Ram Prasad Bismil to launch an armed struggle against the British rule. On August 9, 1925 CE, they robbed a train carrying british government treasure at Kakori. The purpose of this “Kakori train robbery” was to raise funds for the economic attacks on the British and revolutionary movements.

Arrests and court cases
After the robbery, the British government launched a massive investigation. After escaping for some time, Ashfaqullah Khan was captured in 1926 CE. He was charged with sedition and tried in Lucknow. During the trial, he did not regret his motives and fearlessly defended the truth.
Death and subsequent events
On 19 December 1927 CE, Ashfaqullah Khan was hanged in Faizabad jail. Along with him, Ram Prasad Bismil and other revolutionaries were also hanged. His sacrifice gave a new direction to the freedom struggle and inspired many youth.
