In 1571 CE, Mughal emperor Akbar first introduced this ranking system for military and civil officers. Each officer working under this Mansabdari system was called as Manasabdar. Akbar used this system to assign a position or rank to each Mansabdar.

Rank assign to officials known as Manabs. These Manasabs or ranks were given on the base of their administrative abilities and military skills. All upcoming emperors adapted this system into their administration.
