This is an ancient popular city of king Rama. Rama was a famous king in Indian Mythology, and he was believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva are the three supreme Gods according to Hindu religion.
Though the city is mostly associated with king Rama, the city had other popular kings before him as well, like king Harishchandra.
